Hi, I’m a high school student in San Francisco. A few years ago, I learned about oyster shell recycling. After shells are collected from restaurants, they can be put back in the ocean to create reefs–reducing landfills, cleaning the ocean, and preventing coastal flooding. I started volunteering at the Wild Oyster Project to pick up shells every week at local restaurants. That led to creating an app, Shell Savers, to support shell recycling nationwide.
Along the way, I got really interested in ocean health and water protection issues. This blog is kind of a digital record of all the things I’ve learned, and my conversations with scientists and economists over the past couple of years. I hope you enjoy reading it.
